Earth Week - Some ways Go Transit has made changes for the environmental worse

Go Transit public relations love to tell you how they are making things better for the environment but you don't really see how they are not.

The extension of Trains on the Lakeshore Line to Aldershot seems a good move on reducing the footprint on the environment but it also hurts it. If you listen closely to the campaign Go Transit has about parking, they mention alternative means of getting to the station. A lot of people relied on the Go Bus as an alternative to get to the station if they live between stops. Removing the once an hour bus during the day ensures those people drive to the station.

Recently, Go Transit removed bus routes from York region. This forced people to drive rather than take the slower local transit. http://www.yorkregion.com/news/article/627577--go-poised-to-cancel-local-bus-routes

These are only a few examples I found with a simple google. If you have more examples, please comment on this blog so Go Transit can see the ways they can change during this earth week.

No-one was "forced" to take the car in either case. Burlington Transit provides the means for people to get to Aldershot, Burlington and Appleby stations for just 65c. The York Region example was a case where GO's services duplicated a local route.

How is this safety related?

I am guessing Tom works for Go Transit. I know he must not work for Burlington Transit or he would realize cash fare is not 65 cents but $3.

Yes Go Transit "duplicated" local service in York region but not exactly. The local transit provided travel times so slow that it made it impossible to get to the destination on time.

Local transit is not efficient at all and most times to not line up with Go Train schedules. A good example are the Mississauga Transit buses and Clarkson station.

The morning go bus from aldershot/hamilton to burlington that arrives at exactly 7:15 am just misses the train that now leaves at 7:13 am.

LMAO... I do not work for GO Transit or any other transit agency, nor for any part of the public sector.

The original post said "A lot of people relied on the Go Bus as an alternative to get to the station if they live between stops". If you are travelling to/from a GO station with a valid GO ticket or pass, then the fare on Burlington Transit is 65c.
